Does the universe communicate with us?

Have you ever felt that a number, a book, or an unexpected encounter was sending you a sign? Me too! And after years of paying attention, I believe it’s not about deciphering a secret code, but about learning to communicate.

Before delving into answering the question, “Does the universe communicate with us?”, it’s necessary to first address the question that has haunted humanity throughout all recorded cultures and civilizations (and very likely also those that vanished without a trace): What is the meaning of life and existence?

The answer can be quite controversial and depends on whom we ask; that’s why its definitive answer remains an enigma.

The “Bug” in the system

From a purely scientific perspective, we are told that we are the result of chance and billions of years of evolution. Under this view, the primary mechanism of existence is the survival and preservation of the species: We are born, we survive long enough to reproduce, and we die to make room for what comes next. It is a complex mechanical process without a specific purpose. Existence simply is.

However, there seems to be a flaw in this theory, a “bug” in the system. Many humans are born with the need to find the meaning of existence. If there truly were no meaning, our obsession with finding it would be pointless. The question itself would become a mere biological inconvenience.

So, where does this obsession come from? Why does the question appear again and again, in different forms, throughout history? Perhaps it’s not a flaw. Perhaps it’s a clue.

The different versions of meaning

This is where mythologies and religions come in to fill the void. Although each belief system has its own forms and contradictions, almost all agree on one point: There is an omnipotent and omnipresent force. (It is all-powerful and everywhere at once.) This force has been given many names; some call it God, Gods, Allah, Krishna, Jesus, the matrix, or consciousness, to name just a few.

I cannot deny the existence of this force, nor that the search for meaning is simply a flaw in the system. That is why I personally prefer to call it: The Universe.

My personal truth

I believe the only absolute truth is that there is no absolute truth. Every time I encounter someone or a system that claims to possess “the only truth,” I take it as a sign that that path, at least for me, has reached its end.

What follows, then, is not a universal truth. It is my personal truth. An evolving interpretation, subject to future changes, adjustments, and contradictions.

I do believe there is a reason for being, and it is: experience, evolution, and the expansion of consciousness. A potential that exists in all living beings.

Which is the right path?

To reach that potential, each individual faces multiple paths. Not just one, but many: A, B, C, D… a full range of possibilities. The work (if we want to call it that) consists of discovering which of those paths makes sense to oneself.

From this perspective, the universe is neither a judge nor an executioner, but rather a dynamic environment that continually generates conditions for that potential to develop. Because its desire is for our existence to be fulfilling; and that is why it constantly sends us signals.

If we ignore the signals, we become victims of chance, and chaos reigns in our lives. If we pay attention, we learn the lesson and “level up.”

External signs: Synchronicities

  • Recurring Concepts or Books: Some time ago, I started seeing the name “I Ching” mentioned in completely different books. I had no idea what it was. The definitive sign came when, in a museum, I found a notebook where someone had drawn its hexagrams. That’s when I understood it was an invitation to stop being ignorant about it and investigate it.
  • Repeating numbers: Sequences like 11:11, 22:22, or numbers that appear again and again in the most unexpected places. For years I saw this as a simple sign of “you’re doing well, keep it up.” But recently I decided to investigate a specific number, which had been catching my attention for years, through numerology. I found very deep resonances with my life and believe it’s worthwhile to explore this language. An open mind is necessary; not everyone is ready for this conversation, and that’s okay.
  • Animals and objects: An insect that appears before you when you’re making a decision, a feather of a specific color that repeatedly crosses your path, a gleaming coin… These are small omens that, if we pay attention, remind us that we are exactly where we need to be. We can delve into their symbolism or simply smile and keep walking.
  • Blockages and obstacles: When we’re striving to achieve something and things aren’t flowing smoothly, it can be a sign of “this isn’t the right path” or sometimes “be patient.” It depends on the context.
  • Effortless flow: The opposite of the above, it is a clear confirmation that you are on the right track.

Inner signs: our biological GPS

  • Intuition: It’s our energetic GPS. A hunch that whispers to us where to go and what to avoid. It’s a muscle we must train; otherwise, its voice weakens and gets lost in the noise of fear.
  • The Physical Body: An infallible guide that speaks through tension or symptoms. When we consider a decision and our body tenses up, it’s a clear sign that it’s not the right choice. Decisions that are good for us feel like relaxation and peace in the body. Skin rashes, tension, or imbalances are also warnings that something isn’t right: it could be related to diet, stress, or a call to stop and observe our lives.
  • Dreams: Although abstract, they contain profound symbolic messages that, if we observe them carefully, reveal truths that our conscious mind has not yet processed.

What if the dialogue is two-way?

Communication with the universe isn’t one-way. We don’t just receive passive signals; we can also co-create language. We can establish personal agreements, for example: “Universe, when something isn’t right for me, let me hear the word ‘x'” or “Let me see a white feather if things are going well.” There are no fixed rules; it all depends on our creativity. And the curious thing is that the universe responds. Not always as we expect, but it does respond.

So what? Does the universe communicate?

If the universe is that force that yearns for our wholeness and expansion, how could it not communicate? It doesn’t do so with words written in the sky, but in the most intimate way possible: through our own lives, through the synchronicities that stop us in our tracks, through the books that come into our hands, through the bodily sensations we can’t ignore.

Communication doesn’t fail; our ability to listen does. We are trained to look outward for definitive answers, when the most accurate signs often whisper to us from within, from the everyday.

Existence is not a product of chance. It is a constant dialogue between us and that force that moves everything. Sometimes the universe speaks first; sometimes we are the ones who offer the words.

The question isn’t just, “Are you listening?”, but also, “Do you dare to respond?”

Tell me, what signs have you noticed recently? And which ones have you decided to create?

The number that has haunted me for years, on different car license plates, at the same time.
